Bluffton Outlasts Women's Basketball

ERIE, Pa. – Bluffton women's basketball team had five players in double-digit scoring to defeat Penn State Behrend 73-63 in the second round of the Creative Imprints Tip-Off Classic at the Junker Center on Saturday afternoon.

Kaycee Rowe and TJ Mills were just two of the five players in double-digit points with 18 and 11, respectively, to earn All-Tournament Team honors and get the Yellow Jackets (2-0) their second win of the season.

For the second straight game, Katie Chess (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) led the Lions (0-3) in scoring with 15 points. She also led in rebounds with nine boards. Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) went 7-for-7 from the charity stripe for 14 points while adding four steals.

Bluffton built the early lead nine-point lead after the first quarter and only outscored Behrend by just one point in the second and fourth quarter to be the only team to go undefeated on the weekend.

Macey Sheerer had nine of her 15 total points in the first seven minutes of the game, giving the Yellow Jackets their first double-digit lead at 19-9. Bluffton closed out the opening quarter with a three-point play thanks to Ashley Salyer for a 22-13 lead heading into the second period.

Over the next 10 minutes, Bluffton kept the steady lead despite Woll and Chess combining for 10 points for the quarter. The Lions managed to get within seven early in the third quarter off a Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau) layup at 41-34.

The Yellow Jackets quickly regained the double-digit lead that stood through the fourth quarter to win by 10 points.

Rachael Razzano (New Castle, PA/New Castle) finished with 11 points and Glenn added eight points to go with a team-best four assists.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Thiel. Game time is 5 p.m.
