PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Lisa Murphy went 10-for-14 from the floor to register a game-high 29 points while pulling down 12 rebounds to lead Carnegie Mellon past Penn State Behrend 85-61 in non-conference women's basketball team on Friday afternoon.

Katharine Higgins also tallied a double-double for the Tartans (11-0) with 14 points and 10 boards, just one of four starters with double-figure scoring to defeat the Lions (4-7) for the second straight season.

Ali Goetz (Mars, PA/Mars) led Behrend with 19 points, draining four three-pointers and going 6-for-9 from the field. Heidi Langhorst (Corapolis, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) added six points and three blocks.

The Tartans (11-0) jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the first five and a half minutes of the game and never looked back to remain undefeated on the season with their 11th consecutive win.

Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) tallied the first field goal for the Lions to stop the 9-0 run from the Tartans at the 7:22 mark. Behrend cut the lead to 10 with a Goetz triple, but Murphy hit a free throw and Anna Novak hit a trey for a 24-10 advantage.

Carnegie Mellon outscored the Lions by double digits in the first and third quarter to build a 72-45 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Behrend started out with an 11-3 run to close the gap at 75-56. Goetz started with her last three pointer and Rachael Razzano (New Castle, PA/New Castle) and Emily Kinecki (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) each converted a layup to make it 72-52. The Tartans scored seven straight points to regain the commanding lead.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday against Medaille. Game time is 6 p.m.
