Women's Basketball Sweeps Pitt-Greensburg

ERIE, Pa. – Heidi Langhorst (Corapolis, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) recorded her third double-double of the season with a season-best 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Penn State Behrend past Pitt-Greensburg 64-53 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

Langhorst shot 8-for-14 from the field and had a game-high four blocks to help the Lions (9-12, 8-6 AMCC) sweep the Bobcats (7-14, 6-8 AMCC) this season.  Fontaine Glenn (Sunbury, PA/Moniteau) added a season-high 13 points.

Pitt-Greensburg had four players in double figures, led by Lyndy Bear with 13 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the line.

Behrend had a big fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 24-15 to secure its eight conference win this season.

The Lions held their first double-digit lead in the third quarter, 37-26. Pitt-Greensburg used a 12-3 run over the next 6:47 of the period to slowly get back in the game and cut the deficit to two heading into the final quarter.

Baer hit two from the charity stripe to even the score for the seventh time in the contest at 40-all. Behrend used a 10-2 spurt thanks to a pair of unconventional three-point plays by Glenn and Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) to take a 50-42 lead with 6:55 remaining.

The defense did not budge in the final four minutes of play. The Lions held Pitt-Greensburg to four points on two free throws and a layup while getting three points from Ali Goetz (Mars, PA/Mars) and a triple from Rachael Razzano (New Castle, PA/New Castle) to end with an 11-point margin.

The one-point lead Behrend had after the first quarter did not stretch too far into the second period until the final 3:27. With the game knotted at 22-all, Sadie Zielinski (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) hit a jumper and Glenn got two more from the line, before Katie Chess (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) and Goetz each get a basket to give the Lions their largest lead of the first half at 31-24.

Woll and Goetz finished with eight points, while Chess added seven points and six rebounds.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday at La Roche. Game time is 6 p.m.
