Lions Fall in AMCC Semifinals to La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The top-seed La Roche women's basketball team outscored Penn State Behrend 46-18 over the two middle quarters to advance to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship game with an 80-53 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Redhawks (22-4) had five players score in double figures, while holding the Lions (11-16) to six points in the second quarter and 12 in the third to win their 16th straight game and defeat Behrend for a third time this season.

Sabrina McLin went 6-for-10 from the floor for a game-high 17 points and Tichina Mitchell tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) led the Lions with 16 points and Katie Chess (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park).

La Roche shot nearly 60 percent from the floor as a team (57.4) to get one stop closer to winning their seventh straight AMCC title.

The Redhawks jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first 4:37 of the game, but Behrend went on a 13-2 run to get within two at 17-15. The five-point advantage La Roche took into the second quarter turned into double-digits once again after a layup from Dalesza Regan at 32-21. The Redhawks held the Lions scoreless for over four minutes in the quarter to get to a 38-23 lead at halftime.

That lead grew to 33 points, the largest of the game, after a 30-12 third quarter by La Roche.

Behrend had 10 players get on the scoreboard and managed to hold a 37-36 edge in rebounds.

The Lions finish 11-16 overall on the season.
