Lions Fall to Hilbert in AMCC Action

HAMBURG, NY – Ashley Prine tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Hilbert women's basketball team past Penn State Behrend 69-60 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday night.

Prine tallied 11 of those 15 points in the decisive second half to help the Hawks (8-5, 6-1 AMCC) to improve to six wins in the conference. Prine shot 7-for-9 from the field to become one of four Hilbert players to finish with double-figures.

Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), who needed 48 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau entering tonight's game, led the Lions (5-9, 3-4 AMCC) with 19 points and a career-high eight steals. She now is 29 points away from reaching the mark.

Hilbert erased a two-point halftime deficit by outscoring Behrend by six points in the third quarter and five in the fourth to secure the conference victory.

After an even 16-all first quarter, the Lions managed a small two-point lead at intermission thanks to a last-second jumper from Woll for a 32-30 edge. Behrend held its largest lead at 28-23 after an Autumn Byes (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) jump shot with 5:05 left to play.

The Lions regained a six-point lead in the third quarter off a Kourtney Beamesderfer (Rebersburg, PA/Penn Valley) second-chance put back at the 5:50 mark. The Hawks tallied seven straight points to go ahead 44-43 with 2:24 before the fourth quarter.

From there, Hilbert never relinquished the lead over the final 12:24 of the game. Repine made it a double-digit lead at 56-45 with a jumper at the 7:57 mark.

Byes finished with 15 points and six rebounds, while Nicole Boyer (Blairsville, PA/Blairsville) knocked down three triples for 11 points.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Penn State Altoona. Game time is 3 p.m.
