Lions Take on Redhawks in AMCC Semifinals

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team will be traveling to Pittsburgh, PA to take on No. 1 La Roche in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) semifinals on Saturday at 12 p.m.

The Lions (11-15, 8-10 AMCC) earned the No. 5 seed in the tournament and they took on No. 4 seed Penn State Altoona on Thursday. Behrend upset Altoona with a 67-60 final. The Lions were down by 13 in the second quarter before making a comeback to take over the game. Behrend had a strong team effort with four players scoring in double digits. Kara Haslett (Baden, PA/Ambridge) led the team with 18 points while Alanna Dibble (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern) registered her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ashley Seamon (West Allegheny, PA/West Allegheny) chipped in 12 points and Caitlin Carnuche (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) finished with 11.

No. 1 La Roche (16-8, 15-3 AMCC) had a bye to automatically advance to the AMCC semifinals. La Roche is led by junior Jenna Cole who averages 20.2 points per game and 7.1 rebounds. Cole has a 47.8 field goal percentage along with an 83.1 foul shot percentage. Following Cole is freshman Dasja Anderson. Anderson averages 11.7 points per game and 6.4 rebounds.

Behrend and La Roche split the conference matchups this season. The Redhawks defeated the Lions on November 28, 71-54 while Behrend took down La Roche 70-69 on January 31. The Lions hold an overall series record of 28-22 dating back to the 1996-97 season.

The two semifinal winners will meet on Sunday at 12 p.m. at La Roche. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Behrend is looking for its third conference championship and first since the 2003-04 season. The Lions have advanced to eight title games since the inception of the AMCC back in 1997.
