First-Quarter Surge Helps Women's Basketball Down La Roche in AMCC Game of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team continues its winning ways, earning an 83-61 victory over La Roche in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Game of the Week on Wednesday night in the Junker Center.

Key Moments:

* The Lions snapped the Redhawks nine-game winning streak while completing the season sweep
* Behrend remains undefeated in 2025 and takes a two-game lead in the AMCC standings
* La Roche made the first basket of the game and that was the only time the Redhawks held the lead
* The Lions defense held La Roche scoreless by the Lions defense for the next eight and a half minutes
* Behrend used a 17-3 run to close out the first quarter to take the double-digit lead  
* The Lions registered six more field goals in the first half than the Redhawks, the difference coming from behind the arc
* Behrend drained six three pointers in the first half and La Roche missed all five attempts
* The Lions also held a 45-29 advantage on the boards, thanks in part to Madilyn Boyer's (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) second double-double of the season
* Boyer had a game-high 11 boards and added 13 points
* Rachel Majewski (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) had a game-best 26 points on 12-for-17 shooting
* Morgan Altavilla (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) contributed 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists
* Alaina Fabin (Indiana, PA/Homer Center) recorded nine rebounds, eight points and a season-high five steals
* The Lions shot 38.9 percent in the first quarter and finished with 51.6 shooting overall, while holding La Roche under 40 percent
