Majewski, Fabin Headline All-AMCC Women's Basketball Team
Penn State Behrend women’s basketball senior Rachel Majewski was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Year, while freshman Alaina Fabin was voted Newcomer of the Year and head coach Christine VanHook earned Coach of the Year.
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend women's basketball senior Rachel Majewski (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Year, while freshman Alaina Fabin (Indiana, PA/Homer Center) was voted Newcomer of the Year and head coach Christine VanHook earned Coach of the Year.
VanHook garners her third Coach of the Year honors after leading the Lions to their first-ever undefeated conference season at 16-0. Behrend was named the AMCC Regular-Season Champions and advanced to the conference championship game. In addition to the top honors, Majewski and Altavilla landed on the All-AMCC First Team and Madilyn Boyer (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) was selected to the Second Team.
Majewski is the program's second player to earn Player of the Year honors. She leads the conference in total points (456), points per game (17.5), points per 40 min (26.2) and field goals (189). She ranks 28th in NCAA Division III statistics in field goals and is 53rd in points. Majewski has led the team in scoring in a team-best 13 contests and has registered double-figure points in 19 games. She scored 20 or more points in nine games and tied a career-high 33 points at Altoona. Majewski set the all-time scoring record this season at 1,744 and counting. In conference play, she averaged 19.3 points per game. She also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and boasted a 1.6 assist/turnover ratio.
Altavilla, the 2024-25 AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, is second on the team and third in the conference in scoring with 16.0 points per game. She is first in free-throw percentage at 81.8 percent, second in total points scored (433) and is sixth in field-goal percentage (46.6). Altavilla ranks 41st in NCAA DIII statistics in assist/turnover ratio at 1.83. She has led the team in scoring seven times and reached double-digit points in a team-best 25 games out of 26. Altavilla hit 1,000 career points earlier this season as a junior.
Fabin is the program's sixth player to earn Newcomer of the Year. She leads the team and is 11th in the AMCC in rebounding per game (6.9). She is fourth in scoring with 9.9 points per game. Fabin ranks second in the AMCC in field-goal percentage (53.5) and eighth in total steals (38). Fabin has led the team in scoring in seven games while scoring double-digit points in 11 contests. In her first collegiate start in the season opener, Fabin tallied her first double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Boyer represents the Lions on the Second Team. The junior guard is averaging 12.2 points per game, good for third on the team. She is pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game and dishing out 2.9 assists per game. Boyer shot 51.3 percent from the floor in 16 conference games to rank fourth, while her 55 assists put her in fifth in the AMCC. She scored double-digit points in 16 games this season and led the team with a pair of double-doubles.
