Heavyweight Joe Newara placed fifth and Reno DiCesare took eighth at 184 to lead the Penn State Behrend wrestling team at the RIT Invitational on Saturday.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Heavyweight Joe Newara (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) placed fifth and Reno DiCesare (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour) took eight place at 184 to lead the Penn State Behrend wrestling team at the RIT Invitational on Saturday.
Key Moments:
* As a team, the Lions placed 15th with a total of 23.5 points
* After falling in the first bout of the day, Newara reeled off five straight wins to earn fifth place
* Newara improved his team-leading pins to nine with three on the day to go with two decision wins
* DiCesare ended with a 3-2 record at the 184 weight class and eighth overall
* DiCesare recorded three straight wins in the consolation bracket, winning a 1-0 decision over J. Nase of Delaware Valley to stay alive
* Down to 125 from 133, Michael Binni (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) defeated J. Pinkney of Norwich by a 7-6 decision before earning his first major decision 19-11 over Troy Hayes of Alfred State
* Binni finished the day with a 2-2 record
* Brian Himes (Brookville, PA/Brookville), wrestling at 165, posted a 1-2 record
* Himes registered his win by medical forfeit
