Behrend Wrestling Set to Face St. Vincent in Home Opener

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team competes against St. Vincent in the 2024-25 home opener in the Junker Center on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

* The Lions began the season with a third-place finish at the W&J Invitational while collecting a pair of dual-meet victories last weekend
* Behrend defeated Waynesburg 41-10 and tallied a 40-18 win over W&J
* Nolan Fenton (Kersey, PA/Saint Marys) was named the AMCC Wrestler of the Week last week
* Fenton was the individual champion at 197 at the W&J Invitational, posting a 4-0 record and recording three wins by pin
* Fenton remains undefeated on the season with an 8-0 record and leads the team with six pins
* In 88 wins this season, 42 of them came by pinfall, 17 by technical fall and seven by major decision
* Behrend is looking to improve on its third-place finish at the 2024 AMCC Championships
* Behrend returns AMCC Champion Martin Ohlsson (Westfield, NY/Westfield Academy) at 157 and Cole Neil (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys), who finished sixth at the NCAA Southeast Regionals last year
* Ohlsson and Matt Caldwell (Wheatfield, NY/Starpoint) are the returning All-Conference wrestlers
* Head coach Caleb Garvey, the AMCC Coach of the Year, enters his third year mentoring the Lions

St. Vincent News & Notes

* The Bearcats are competing for the second time this season
* In the season opener, St. Vincent dropped a 34-14 decision to Shippensburg
* The Bearcats won the first three matches against the Raiders to take a 14-0 lead
* Ryan Klingensmith posted a 15-7 major decision, while Kyle McCollum and Ryan Yocum earned technical falls to start the season
* St. Vincent was tabbed the favorites in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Preseason Poll
* Last season, the Bearcats own the PAC Championship and boasted three individual champions and 10 All-Conference wrestlers
* All three PAC Champions (Sean Cain, Charlie Mesich, and Chase Brandebura) return this season
* Brandebura was also named the PAC Newcomer of the Year
