Three Lions Grab Athletes of the Week
Penn State Behrend wrestling sophomore Cole Neil (St. Marys, PA/Saint Marys) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Men’s Wrestler of the Week, while swimmers Camryn Watters (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) and Anthony Tumino (Hershey, PA/Hershey) earned conference Swimmers of the Week.
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend wrestling sophomore Cole Neil (St. Marys, PA/Saint Marys) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Men's Wrestler of the Week, while swimmers Camryn Watters (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) and Anthony Tumino (Hershey, PA/Hershey) earned conference Swimmers of the Week.
Neil was undefeated on the week, getting three dual-meet wins (two pins, one decision) to help the Lions improve to 5-1 on the season. He registered the first points for Behrend against St. Vincent on Wednesday, pinning Liam Flanigan at 141. Neil then picked up a pair of wins on Saturday. He used an 8-4 decision to defeat Jackson Bowers of Hiram before pinning Mamady Treore of Pitt-Bradford in 2:08.
Watters broke four Behrend women's swimming records this past weekend, while picking up a pair of first-place finishes at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invite. She broke the team, pool and AMCC open record with an NCAA 'B' cut time (56.63) in the 100 backstroke for first place. Watters also won the 200 backstroke (2:07.06), while placing third in the 50 free. She swam a leg on the 400 medley relay that took second and broke a team record with a time of 4:02.91. Watters was also a part of the second place 200 free relay and the third place 400 free relay and 200 medley relay.
Tumino set six records, while winning three individual events and swimming on four winning relays to help the Lions capture the Fredonia Blue Devil Invite for a second-straight season. He won the 50 free with a new Behrend, pool and AMCC open record time of 20.78. Tumino was first in the 100 free with a new pool and team record of 45.76, while also winning the 200 free (143.74). He swam a leg on the winning 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay (all first-place finishes).
