Behrend Wrestling Sweeps AMCC Top Honors
The Penn State Behrend men’s wrestling team swept all three major awards for the 2024-25 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) season.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's wrestling team swept all three major awards for the 2024-25 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) season. Freshman Rudy Brown (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) was named Newcomer of the Year and Nolan Fenton (Kersey, PA/Saint Marys) was voted Wrestler of the Year, while head coach Caleb Garvey garnered Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season.
Fenton and Brown were also listed on the All-AMCC First Team for winning the conference championship in their respective weight class. Zach Dellinger (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville), Cole Neil (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys), and Steffan Lynch (North East, PA/North East) were selected to the second team for finishing runner up at the AMCC Championships.
At 197, Fenton has a 21-3 overall record and 8-1 dual-meet mark. The sophomore opened the season with 11 straight wins, including eight pins and two technical falls. Overall, he leads the team with 11 pins and five technical falls. Fenton has also added one major decision. He won the AMCC Championship in his respective weight class via all technical falls. Two of Fenton's three losses this year were to nationally-ranked opponents. He also won the W&J Invite and placed fifth at the RIT Invite. Fenton currently has a 4.21 points average making him one of the most dominant wrestlers in Division III.
Brown was the AMCC Champion at 157, posting three straight wins including one fall to improve his record to 19-2 on the season. He went undefeated in dual-meet action, winning 15 consecutive matches. Brown has six falls, four major decisions and three technical falls this season.
Dellinger, wrestling at 125, tallied a 16-14 overall record. His 16 wins ranks him fourth on the team. Dellinger ranked second in pins with 10. At the AMCC Championships, Dellinger posted a pair of decision wins before falling in the finals, 9-8 for second place.
Neil posted a 2-1 record at the AMCC Championships, falling in the finals at 141. This season, he earned a 14-8 overall record and a 10-3 dual mark. The 10 dual wins ranks Neil second on the team. He also tallied seven pins and one technical fall.
Lynch, who joined the team in January, has a 7-2 overall record and placed second at the AMCC Championships to earn All-Conference. He has three pins and three technical falls in his seven wins at 149. Lynch fell in the AMCC Championship bout due to medical forfeit.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, March 1 at the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional hosted by Lycoming.
