Women's Soccer Forges Tie in 2008 Season Opener Versus B-W

The Behrend women's soccer team opened the 2008 season with a 1-1 double-overtime tie in the first-round of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament.

The game is recorded as an official tie for both teams, however the tournament format featured a shootout to determine advancement to the championship game. Behrend was geared up and via a 4-1 differential will advance to Sunday's title game at 12:00 noon. 

Although Behrend controlled the ball for much of the first half, the Yellow Jackets Natalie Fox scored off a nice pass from Linsey Clapacs at the 17: 46 mark as B-W took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Behrend responded five minutes and six seconds into the next 45 minutes as sophomore Caitlin Elser (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) connected on a direct free kick to knot the game at 1-1. Each team had a couple good looks throughout the two overtimes, it finished locked up in a tie.

The blue and white outshot B-W 14-7 for the game. Behrend's ace goal keeper Kayla Frost (Venetia/Peters Township) made four saves on the day.

In game two, Wooster (1-0) handled Geneseo 3-0, and will battle Behrend at 12 p.m. on Sunday. Baldwin-Wallace (0-0-1) and Geneseo (0-1) will play in the consolation game at 10:00 a.m. on the Behrend Fields.

After the busy opening weekend, Behrend will sit tight for four days before traveling to the Fredonia State Blue Devil Tournament. Behrend opens play on Friday against Rochester at 2:30 p.m.
