Wooster Knocks Off Behrend 4-1 in 2008 HLM Championship Game
On Saturday, August 31, four different Wooster players found the back of the net as the Fighting Scots defeated Behrend 4-1 in the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament Championship game.
Wooster took a 2-0 lead in the half. In the twenty-first minute of the second half, Behrend freshman Lindsey Steinsdoerfer (Pittsburgh/North Hills) cut the lead to 2-1 after she scored on a pass from Brittany Barbato (State College/State College). However, Wooster responded instantly as Caitlin Browne made it 3-1 at 65:16, and then the Fighting Scots chipped in another to create the 4-1 deficit.
Wooster outshot Penn State Behrend 21-3 and improved to 2-0 on
the season. Kristin McCall was named the Herb Lauffer Memorial
Soccer Tournament's Most Valuable Player. In Sunday's consolation
contest, Geneseo (1-1) defeated Baldwin-Wallace (0-1-1) 3-2.
After the busy opening weekend, Behrend will sit tight for four
days before traveling to the Fredonia State Blue Devil Tournament.
Behrend opens play on Friday against Rochester at 2:30 p.m.
