Behrend Women's Soccer Begins AMCC Title Defense With Easy Win
The Penn State Behrend Lions opened the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference season on Saturday, September 27, with a 17-0 win over the Mt. Aloysius Mounties.
The blue and white started the game with three goals within the first five minutes of play. Catilyn Elser (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) began the scoring at 1:56 into the game and added another two minutes later. Then Nikki Frisbee (Valencia/Mars), Lindsey Steinsdoerfer (Pittsburgh/North Hills), and Mia Baltutat (Pittsburgh/Upper St. Clair) each contributed two goals apiece. Brittany Barbato (State College/State College) added another with less than a minute left in the half. The Behrend Lions would dominate the first half of play tallying nine first half goals.
The second half was much of the same as the blue and white scored two minutes into the second half. A Jaclyn Stottlemyer (Charleroi/Charleroi) cross found the head of Steinsdoerfer and into the back of the net. Adding to the scoring in the second half was Elser with two, Baltutat, Emily Lewis (Washington/Bishop Canevin), and Rachelle Thompson(Scottdale/Southermoreland) added three.
The blue and white are now 2-6-1 on the year and 1-0 in the league, while Mt. Aloysius is now 2-5-1 and 0-1 in the AMCC.
The Behrend Lions will be back in action on October 1, 2008 against Case Western Reserve and then the blue and white will be back at home on October 11 against Pitt-Greensburg at 1:00 p.m.
