Daniel Mudd Named Interim Head Coach of Behrend Lions Women's Soccer

On Tuesday, January 26, Penn State Behrend Director of Athletics Brian Streeter announced the appointment of Daniel Mudd as the interim Head Coach of the women's soccer program.

"I am really excited to have Daniel Mudd as our interim head coach as we go into the 2010 season," said Streeter.  "His playing experience at Mercyhurst, as well as his role this past year as our goalie coach, along with an experienced women's soccer team returning should serve our women's program well in the coming year."

Previously, Mudd assisted on the Behrend men's team that compiled a team record for wins finishing with an 18-5-2 record on the way to winning the 2009 ECAC South Region Tournament. He also served as goalkeeper coach for both the men's and women's program.

"A key to the continued success of our women's programn the coming year will be the replacement of two excellent goalies who will have graduated by the end of this school year," continued Streeter.  "His playing experience as a goalie along with his ability to communicate the necessary skills to an incoming freshman goalie will be key to the success of our upcoming women's soccer season."

In the summer of 2009, Mudd earned the MVP award for his contributions to the Erie Admirals NPSL team that made it to the National Championship game in its inaugural season. Mudd spent four years at NCAA Division II, Mercyhurst College. As a four year starting goalkeeper and two year captain, Mudd helped the Lakers to a conference championship, one NCAA tournament appearance, and a national ranking of seventh in the country. Mudd earned all-conference awards every year, receiving all-region awards during his sophomore and senior campaigns. He collected team rookie of the year in 2005 and was voted MVP for his efforts during his junior season. He finished his career holding the school record for saves (322).

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work within such a prestigious program," said Mudd.  "With the help of the exceptional playing and coaching staff here at Behrend, I hope to continue its tradition of success."

Mudd came to Erie, PA from Hull, England. As a youth player in England, Mudd played for current EPL team Hull City A.F.C. and also represented his country on the England Schoolboys teams.

Mudd earned his undergraduate degree in Educational Studies from Mercyhurst College and is currently pursuing his master's in business administration here at Behrend.
