Behrend Women's Soccer Announces 2009 Team Awards

The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team recently announced its team award winners for the 2009 season.  The Behrend women's soccer team award winners are chosen by a vote of team members.

Senior goalkeeper Kayla Frost (Venetia/Peters Township) was named as the team's MVP.  Frost tallied 78 saves this season with a .857 save percentage, while shutting out six opponents.  Frost was a first team All-AMCC selection and a third team NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region selection, and leaves Behrend as the career leader in shutouts with 26.

Kelly Thill (Wexford/Pine Richland) was tabbed as the team's leadership/scholarship award winner.  The junior defender was also a first team All-AMCC selection as well as a ECAC All-Star as a member of a Behrend Lions defensive unit that yielded just 0.56 goals per game.

Meredith Gipson (Murrysville/Franklin Regional) was named the team's most improved player.  The freshman midfielder played in all 22 games for the blue and white tallying five goals and three assists and was named honorable mention All-AMCC.

Kourtney Gasparovic (West Mifflin/West Mifflin) was selected as the team's rookie of the year.  The freshman defender started all 22 games for the Behrend Lions coming up with two goals and three assists and was named second team All-AMCC.

Caitlyn Elser (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) was voted as the team's representative to the AMCC All-Sportsmanship team.  The junior midfielder posted two goals and two assists while playing in all 22 games for the Behrend Lions.

The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team finished with a record of 14-4-4 and advanced to the ECAC South Region Championship game.
