Behrend Lions Open Herb Lauffer Tournament With Convincing Win

The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team opened the annual Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament with a 4-0 dominating win over the Juniata Eagles on Saturday, September 5 at the Behrend Fields.

The first half was a back and forth battle as both teams struggled to find the net early.  At the 58:46 mark in the second half, Behrend finally got on the board when junior Caitlyn Elser (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) was rewarded with a penalty kick to break the 0-0 tie with her first goal of the young season.  Shortly after, Erin McCreary (Pittsburgh/Seton-LaSalle) notched her third goal of the season and Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh/Montour) added one of her own to make the score 3-0.  Wagner would punch in one more at the 80:38 mark to make the score 4-0 and a decisive victory for the Behrend Lions. Senior goalkeeper Kayla Frost (Venetia/Peters Township) once again played stellar defense holding the Eagles to zero goals in 81 minutes of play.

The blue and white advanced to the Championship Game of the tournament with the win and will play tomorrow at 12:00 pm against the Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets who defeated the Geneseo Blue Knights 1-0 in the second game of the day.
