Behrend Women Win Herb Lauffer Tournament

The Penn State Behrend Lions women's soccer team closed out the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets on Sunday, September 6 to claim the 2009 title.

Baldwin-Wallace got on the board first at the 16:11 mark of the first half with an unassisted goal by sophomore forward Noelle Fox.  The score remained 1-0 going into the second half with Baldwin-Wallace outshooting the blue and white three to one.  Behrend struck at the 69 minute mark with a goal by sophomore Glennis Robash (Mars/Mars) to tie the game up at one.  The second half horn sounded as the two teams were still tied at one and were heading to overtime.  Almost nine minutes into the ten minute overtime, the game was decided with a goal by freshman Kourtney Gasparovic (West Mifflin/West Mifflin) to make the Behrend Lions tournament champions.  Gasparovic would turn out to be the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Next up for the blue and white will be the Fredonia State Tournament on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12.  Behrend will play Rochester at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and the host Fredonia on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
