Women's Soccer Earns Eight All-Conference Honors; Vasy Tabs Co-Newcomer of the Year

ERIE, Pa. – Freshman Sam Vasy was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Co-Newcomer of the Year, headlining the 2010 All-AMCC team and joining seven other teammates who earned all-conference recognition.

Glennis Robash and Kelly Thill were chosen to the first team, while Vasy, Jacyln Stottlemyer and Caitlyn Elser tabbed second-team honors. Valerie Wagner, Lindsey Steinsdoerfer and Kourtney Gasparovic were voted as honorable mentions. Six out of the eight members recognized are returning all-conference selections.

Robash appears on the first team after being named an honorable mention in 2009. This season, she led the team with nine goals, making four of those game winners. She also led in points with 21 and adding three assists. Robash scored a pair of goals on two occasions and started in all but one game.

Thill is making her third appearance and second straight on the first team. The defender started every game and tallied two assists. She also anchored the defense that recorded six shutouts this season.

Vasy, starting defender turned midfielder, shares the Co-Newcomer of the Year award with Penn State Altoona’s Merredith Waters. During her freshman campaign, she started all 21 games, scoring one goal and dishing out four assists for six points.

Stottlemyer dominated the center midfield this season, tying for fourth on the team with four goals. She scored the game winner in a 2-1 victory over Medaille and then scored the lone goal in a 1-all tie against Penn State Altoona on a penalty kick. Stottlemyer was chosen an honorable mention in 2009.

Elser finishes her career at Behrend with a second-team nod, her first all-conference honor. Starting every game for the Lions, she scored three goals and added two assists for eight points from out of the defense.

Wagner, a sophomore forward, tallied five goals to rank third on the squad. She also distributed two assists for 12 points this season. Wagner, a first-team choice in 2009, started in 19 of the 21 games up front and scored twice in an 8-2 win over Hilbert.

Gasparovic and Steinsdoerfer were named to the second team a year ago. Steinsdoerfer was also an honorable mention in 2008. The junior tallied four goals and four assists to tie for third on the team with 12 points. Gasparovic started every game on defense and utilized her speed and versatility from the outside to record four assists. She also helped the Lions shut out six opponents.
