Box Score

FREDONIA, NY – The Fredonia women’s soccer team scored three unanswered goals and added another late in the second half to defeat Behrend 4-1 on the second day of the Clarion Hotel Classic hosted by the Blue Devils this weekend.

Catie Hale was responsible for the first two goals of the day, scoring the first and assisting the second to give Fredonia a 2-0 lead at halftime. Lindsey Steinsdoerfer tallied her second goal of the season off Kourtney Gasparovic’s first assist.

The Lions’ (2-3) Kelly Thill and Caitlyn Elser were named to the All-Tournament Team. Rochester was the tournament champion with a 2-0 record, while Baldwin-Wallace was runners-up.

It wasn’t until late in the first half the Blue Devils started their scoring frenzy. Hale netted the first goal off a direct kick at the 38:26 mark, before assisting Lindsay Putman six minutes later on chip across the box for a 2-0 lead with just 33 seconds to halftime.

Julie LaPolla, who was also named to the All-Tournament Team, scored for Fredonia in the 69th minute to make it 3-0. With 4:06 left to play, Steinsdoerfer was able to prevent the shut out with the lone Behrend goal.

Cecilia Roche, who subbed in after the Lions goal, came in and scored right away for the final margin a 4-1. Her goal came 22 seconds into entering the game.

Robin Siegenthaler made seven saves in the loss.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Mount Union. Game time is 4 p.m.
