Scoring Frenzy Lifts Behrend Past Hilbert

HAMBURG, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team scored four goals in each half to breeze past Hilbert 8-2 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday.

The eight goals were the most scored by the Lions (10-5-1, 6-0-1 AMCC) to keep them tied for first place in the conference with Penn State Altoona. Valerie Wagner, Erin McCreary and Dana Saunders each netted two goals, while Sam Vasy and Glennis Robash tallied one a piece.

The Hawks (4-11, 1-6 AMCC) got both of their goals from Alyssa Hulbert. Mary Zinni and Julie Bossard split time in the net, making four and two saves, respectively.

Behrend scored the first five goals of the game, before letting Hilbert on the board in the 71^st minute. McCreary struck first for the Lions on a header off a long ball from Jaclyn Stottlemyer at the 9:23 mark of the first half. Vasy made it 2-0 and Saunders recorded back-to-back goals, scoring just three minutes apart for a 4-0 advantage after the first 45 minutes of play.

Lindsey Steinsdoerfer found Wagner in the 71^st minute for a commanding 5-0 lead. Hulbert stopped the bleeding at 70:18 with an unassisted goal.

Behrend answered with a 3-0 run over a span of five minutes, one second to pull away 8-1. Robash started the spurt and Wagner followed on an assist from Steinsdoerfer and McCreary posted her second goal for the final Lions' tally.

Two minutes later, Hilbert found the back of the net on a free kick for the 8-2 margin.

Robin Siegenthaler played the entire game in goal for Behrend, making three saves. Despite the lop-sided score, the Lions only held an 18-15 shot advantage.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Mt. Aloysius. Game time is 3 p.m.
