If there were walk-off game-winning goals in soccer, this would be that time. ERIE, Pa. – If there were walk-off game-winning goals in soccer, this would be that time. Jaclyn Stottlemyer scored off a cross from Kourtney Gasparovic with 0.7 second left to play to help the Penn State Behrend women’s soccer team remained undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play with a 2-1 win over Medaille on Wednesday.
The Lions (9-5, 5-0 AMCC), trailing most of the second half, scored two goals with less than 10 minutes to play for the come-back victory. Valerie Wagner tallied the first goal from Caitlyn Elser’s pass from a corner kick.
The Mavericks (2-11-1, 2-2-1) held an 11-10 shot advantage and got their goal from Kara Donner in the 51st minute.
After a scoreless first half, Medaille broke the silence with a goal that began with a corner kick. Behrend goalie Robin Siegenthaler came out of the net to intercept the ball and Gina Pera was there to have a chance at an open goal, but the Lions defense made the team save. Amongst the panic and scramble, Donner was there to put the Mavericks ahead 1-0.
With 7:29 left in the game, Elser played the short corner kick to Wagner who sent a driven low shot on the turf past Denay O’Conner to make it 1-all.
Emily Lewis’ had a chance with 1:38 left to put the Lions ahead, however her shot went just wide left of the goal. Behrend kept the ball down on its offensive end and with merely seconds to go, Stottlemyer scored her first goal of the season thanks to Gasparovic’s driven ball to the middle with the time expiring.
The Lions return to action on Saturday in their final regular-season home game against Penn State Altoona. Game time is 1 p.m.
