ERIE, Pa. – Emily Lewis chose the right time to score her first two goals of the season and help the Behrend women’s soccer team come from behind to defeat Pitt-Bradford 2-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday.
Lewis, who came off the bench in the first half, netted both goals over a 14-minute span including the game winner with just 2:36 left to play to help the Lions (8-5, 4-0 AMCC) keep an unblemished conference mark.
The Panthers (6-8, 3-3 AMCC) were accurate in their shooting on the day, scoring their goal on the first shot taken but were held to only four more shots by the Behrend defense. Danielle Zeamer tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season for Pitt-Bradford in the opening five minutes.
The early goal belonged to the Panthers thanks to Zeamer, who took the ball down the right side from the top of the box and slammed it in for a 1-0 lead. The Lions fought back with 11 chances on net in the first half and 10 more in the second.
In the 74th minute, Caitlyn Elser had her shot go off the crossbar and Lewis was there to pick up the pieces and net the game at 1-all. Six minutes later, Lewis got herself in the right place at the right time once again. Following a corner kick by defender Kourtney Gasparovic, Behrend turned on the attack and fired off two straight shots with Lewis’ proving to be the game winner.
Alayna Steele only needed to make one save in the net, while the Panthers’ Alex Snellbaker tallied eight on 21 shots faced.
The Lions return to action on Thursday for a rescheduled game against Medaille. Game time is 1 p.m.
