Baldwin-Wallace Edges Behrend in Final Minutes

ERIE, Pa. – Brigitte Petrash scored the game-winning goal off a deflected shot by Hanna Cavalier in the 89th minute to lead Baldwin-Wallace past Penn State Behrend 3-2 in non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday.

The Lions (1-2) battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the second half with a pair of goals from Shelby Lloyd within 10 minutes of each other to knot the game at 2-all. Erin McCreary made a team save off Cavalier's shot and Petrash was at the right place at the right time to knock in the game winner, helping the Yellow Jackets (1-0) open the season with a victory.

Cavalier netted the first goal of the game, sliding one from the right side past Heather Klimuszka (Rochester, NY/Athena Greece) at the 19:11 mark. Baldwin-Wallace continued the momentum from the first goal and took a 2-0 lead with a goal from Kayla Losco off a direct kick in the 32nd minute.

Behrend managed a 13-1 edge in corner kicks, scoring off one in the 77th minute to get on the scoreboard.  Julia Schroeck (Fairview, PA/Fairview) floated the ball up and to the far corner of the goal to allow Lloyd to run on the ball to knock it in to make it 2-1.

The Lions kept up the intensity from that goal and scored another in similar fashion. Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) took a direct kick near the end line, sending the ball through a crowd of defenders to find Lloyd to even the game at 2-all.

Before Lloyd's second goal, Behrend had two chances to tie it with Lindsey Steinsdoerfer's (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) header stopped by Gabrielle Bodo with a swapping save and Wagner sent a shot high just a few feet from the goal.

Less than two minutes before sending the game into overtime, Petrash put the Yellow Jackets in the lead for good.

The Lions return to action against Mt. Union at the Clarion Classic held by Fredonia State on Friday. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
