Behrend Shuts Out Mt. Union

FREDONIA, NY – Lindsey Steinsdoerfer (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) scored her second goal of the season and goalkeeper Heather Klimuszka (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) made four saves to help Penn State Behrend blank Mt. Union 2-0 at the Clarion Classic held by Fredonia St. on Friday.
The win marks the first shut-out victory for the Lions (2-2) this season and the first loss for the Raiders (3-1-1). Glennis Robash tallied the assist on Steinsdoerfer's goal, while Mt. Union had an own goal off a corner kick to give Behrend a 2-0 final.
After a scoreless first half, Tina Pendice took a corner kick in the 52 minute and found the head of Robash who skipped it onto Steinsdoerfer for a 1-0 lead. The senior captain was able to catch Jackie Podolsky out of the net and finish the ball for the advantage.
At the 64:35 mark, the Lions had another corner kick but this time getting the luck of the bounce and knocked in by the Raiders to make it, 2-0.
The stats favor Behrend in the shot category, holding a 20-8 margin and also 10-5 edge in corner kicks.
The Lions return to action tomorrow against host Fredonia St. at 7 p.m.
