Wagner Leads Behrend Past Franciscan

ERIE, Pa. – Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) scored her fourth game-winning goal this season to lead the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team past Franciscan 1-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Lions (8-4-1, 4-0 AMCC) remain undefeated in conference play and against Franciscan, posting their fourth straight shut-out win over the Barons (6-5, 2-2 AMCC). Heather Klimuszka (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) made three saves for her sixth win in goal.

After firing off just two shots in the first half, Behrend got on the scoreboard in the 51st minute and held on for the victory.

Lindsey Steinsdoerfer (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) played a diagonal ball through the defense and Wagner created a one-on-one situation with Lauren Koath, scoring her team-leading seventh goal.

Franciscan, the conference leader in shots and goals per game, were held scoreless and only able to get off six shots in the 90 minutes.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday at Pitt-Bradford. Game time is 3 p.m.
