Lions Fall to Pitt-Bradford, 1-0

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford women's soccer team scored in the 11th minute of the game and buckled down on the defense to post a 1-0 win over Penn State Behrend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday.

The win marks the first for the Panthers (10-2-1, 4-1-1 AMCC) against the Lions (8-5-1, 4-1 AMCC). It also is Behrend's first conference loss of the season.

Stephannie Gaudette scored the game-winning goal at the 10:24 mark. She gained possession in the midfield and sprinted up the right side of the field, scoring in the near corner on the first Pitt-Bradford shot for the early 1-0 lead.

The Lions held a 12-4 shot advantage in the first half and 10-3 in the second stanza for a 22-7 edge overall.  In the 87th minute, Julia Schroeck (Fairview, PA/Fairview) fired a shot that potentially could have tied the game, but it was saved by a player for the Panthers due to goalie Alisa Cornell not in the right place at the right time.

Cornell made 12 saves on the 22 shots, while Heather Klimuszka (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) tallied two stops.

Behrend travels to Penn State Altoona on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
