Women's Soccer Advances to AMCC Semifinals; Lions Down La Roche, 2-0

ERIE, Pa.  – The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team advances to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Semifinals with a 2-0 win over La Roche in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday afternoon at Mercyhurst College.

The Lions (12-6-1) scored a goal in each half to continue their hopes of a seventh conference championship. With the win, Behrend is now 8-1 against the Redhawks (6-8-4) in the AMCC playoffs.

Cassi Teti (Elizabeth Forward, PA/Elizabeth Forward) made her first collegiate goal memorable, scoring less than a minute after entering the game to put the Lions ahead 1-0 in the 38th minute. Teti intercepted the ball from the defense and sent a low shot past Raelene Zajac to break the scoreless tie.

Just a 1:15 after the second-half started, Sam Vasy (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) sent the perfect through ball for a sprinting Erin McCreary (Pittsburgh, PA/Seton-La Salle). McCreary gathered the ball and sent a cross towards that goal that floated over her head to take a 2-0 lead.

Behrend managed to hold La Roche to just two shots, one in each half to preserve the shutout for Robin Siegenthaler (Penns Valley, PA/Penns Valley).  The Redhawks battled the Lions the entire 90 minutes, despite only taking two shots. Zajac finished with five saves and Siegenthaler came away with one.

Behrend will face the No. 2 seed Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday in Bradford, Pa. Game time is 2 p.m.
