Six Named to All-AMCC Women's Soccer Team

ERIE, Pa. – Junior Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Year while freshman Maddie Monte (Beaver, PA/Beaver) earned  Newcomer of the Year, just two of six Penn State Behrend women's soccer players recognized on the 2011 All-Conference Team.

Wagner joins Lindsey Steinsdoerfer (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) and Julia Schroeck (Fairview, PA/Fairview) on the first team. Seniors Emily Lewis (Washington, PA/Bishop Canevin) and Erin McCreary (Pittsburgh, PA/Seton-La Salle), and sophomore Sam Vasy (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) were selected to the third team.

Wagner appears on the first team after being named to the third team last year and second team in 2009. It is her first Player of the Year honors for the junior forward. Wagner led the team with 11 goals and five assists for 27 points. She scored four game-winning goals and netted a hat trick against D'Youville. 

Steinsdoerfer, a co-captain with Wagner, is earning her fourth All-Conference recognition. She was second on the team with six goals and three assists. She tallied two game-winning goals and went 1-for-1 in penalty kicks.  

Schroeck, a forward turned defender for her junior year, is enjoying her first All-AMCC honors. She anchored the defense that helped the Lions to eight shut-out victories, while starting all 21 games and scoring three goals with one assist.

Lewis and McCreary are making their first appearance on the third team. In just 14 games played, Lewis tallied six goals and one assist for 13 points. She had a pair of goals on two occasions and started in 12 contests. McCreary was instrumental and speedy on the flank in the midfield, scoring three goals to go with three assists on the season.

Vasy, who shared the Co-Newcomer of the Year award last year, was named to the third team. The sophomore had two goals and tied for most assists on the squad with five.

Monte followed in Vasy's footsteps, earning Newcomer of the Year accolades. She started every game on defense and utilized her speed and versatility from the back field to lead the Lions. She also helped Behrend shut out eight opponents, including Penn State Altoona in the AMCC Championship game.
