ERIE, Pa. – For the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2007, the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team is headed to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Lions earned an automatic bid into the 64-team tournament after winning their seventh the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship on Saturday.

Behrend will travel to Wheaton, Illinois to face the No. 1 seed Wheaton Thunder (18-1-2), who are ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA National Poll, on Friday night in a first-round match at 5 p.m. The other first-round match will feature Capital (11-7-2) and Alma College (18-3-1), beginning at 7:30 p.m. The winners will play each other in a second-round match at 6 p.m. on Saturday hosted by Wheaton to determine who advanced to the NCAA Sectionals the following weekend.

Admission to each day is $6 for adults, students (ages 12 and up) are $3, senior citizens are $3, ages 3-12 are $2 and children two years old and younger will be admitted for free.

Behrend's previous three NCAA appearances occurred in 2000, 2006 and 2007. The Lions became just the second team in conference history with a No. 3 seed to win the tournament. In 2002, Frostburg State defeated La Roche 3-1 in penalty kicks for the title.

Behrend finished the AMCC regular season with a 7-2 record, only falling to Pitt-Bradford and Altoona. The Lions defeated the Panthers 2-1 in the AMCC semifinals and the Lions in the championship game on Saturday.

It will be the first time Behrend and the Thunder will play each other in program history. The Lions have never faced Alma, but lost to Capital 3-2 in their only meeting back in 1999.
