ERIE, Pa. – Sam Vasy (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) each scored a goal to lift the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team past Westminster 2-0 in non-conference action on Saturday.

Melissa Huff (Center, PA/Central Valley) tallied her first collegiate assist on Vasy's eventual game-winning goal in the 36th minute and Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) had three saves to keep the Titans (3-3-1) off the board and secure her first shut out for the Lions (1-5).

With just under 10 minutes left in the first half, Vasy put Behrend ahead 1-0 after finishing a ball played in by Huff from the left side. Vasy controlled and kept possession of the ball, sending her shot past Jenn Cantella for the early lead.

Behrend never let up on the pressure from the first half which resulted in another goal by Wagner at the 78:33 mark. Danielle Pelensky (Harborcreek, PA/Harborcreek) had the ball on the right flank and sent a diagonal ball through the box to Wagner, who then hit a bending shot for a two-goal advantage.

Behrend hit four of its nine shots on goal and capitalizing on two for its first win of the season.

The Lions hit the road for four straight games, beginning with Grove City on Thursday. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
