Schroeck Nets Game Winner in Overtime

CRESSON, Pa. – Julia Schroeck (Fairview, PA/Fairview) netted the game-winning goal in overtime to lead Penn State Behrend past Mt. Aloysius 3-2 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) women's soccer action on Saturday.

Just three minutes into overtime, Schroeck scored her fourth goal of the season to help the Lions (7-8, 5-1 AMCC) survive their second straight overtime game.  Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) and Abbie Schuster (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) also scored for Behrend.

The Moutines (2-10-1, 1-4-1 AMCC) tallied back-to-back goals on their only two shots of the day to take a 2-1 lead early in the second half. After Schuster scored in the 14th minute off a pass from Melissa Huff (Center, PA/Central Valley), Megan Parker tied the game at 1-all with an unassisted tally with 14 minutes left in the first half.

Mt. Aloysius got its second goal from Stephanie Oaks five minutes after the second-half whistle. Three minutes later, Wagner registered her team-leading seventh goal for the equalizer.

The teams battled through 40 scoreless minutes until Schroeck found the back of the net on her fourth shot on goal for the game winner.

Statistically, the Lions held a 17-2 shot advantage and kept Lauren Chalingsworth busy for the Mounties, who made nine saves.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Pitt-Bradford. Game time is at 1 p.m.
