Foy Sparks Lions Past Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. – Freshman Emily Foy (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg) scored her first collegiate goal to break a scoreless tie and lead the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team past Pitt-Bradford 1-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lions (8-8, 6-1 AMCC) knocked the Panthers (11-5, 6-1 AMCC) off the undefeated ranks in the conference to move into a tie for first place in the AMCC.

Both teams could not find the net after the first 45 minutes of play. Foy came off the bench with the spark Behrend needed in the second half. At the 56:38 mark, Melissa Huff (Center, PA/Central Valley) intercepted the ball in the Lions offensive half and played a through ball to split two Pitt-Bradford defenders. Foy blasted a shot past Alisa Cornell and into the far left corner for a 1-0 lead.

Foy had another chance to give Behrend a two-goal advantage, but her shot from the right-side endline was saved by Cornell.

The Lions' defense held the Panthers two leading scorers Maggie Boehler (12g) and Tess Follman (11g) without a goal on the day and only allowed seven total shots. Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) had five saves for her sixth shutout. Cornell finished with two saves.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Penn State Altoona. Game time is 1 p.m.
