Lions Tie Capital in Herb Lauffer Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team battled Capital to a 2-all tie in the second round of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (0-1-1) struck first, before the Crusaders (0-1-1) took the lead with a pair of goals including one on a penalty kick. Behrend made it 2-all in the second half, however, neither team could not get the game-winning goal to force overtime.

In the 24^th minute, Courtney Edwards (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) found herself at the right place to get her first goal in a Lion uniform, scoring with a header off a corner kick from defender Abbie Schuster (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair).

Capital was awarded a penalty kick at the 34:03 and Allison Mervau buried her shot low into the left corner to tie the game at 1-all.

Quickly into the second half, the Crusaders took a 2-1 lead after Hilary Ells blasted a shot from inside the box for the unassisted tally just 47 seconds after the whistle.

Bilka found her second goal of the season in as many days in the 71^st minute to even the score. The freshman beat the Capital defender in a scramble near the endline and sent her close shot past goalie Maggie Donnellan.

Behrend outshot the Crusaders 4-1 in overtime, but was not able to find the back of the net.

Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) had a good day in the net, making six saves for the Lions.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Alfred State, beginning at 7 p.m.
