Lions Tie Capital in Herb Lauffer Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team battled Capital to a 2-all tie in the second round of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (0-1-1) struck first, before the Crusaders (0-1-1) took the lead with a pair of goals including one on a penalty kick. Behrend made it 2-all in the second half, however, neither team could not get the game-winning goal to force overtime.

In the 24th minute, Courtney Edwards (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) found herself at the right place to get her first goal in a Lion uniform, scoring with a header off a corner kick from defender Abbie Schuster (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair).

Capital was awarded a penalty kick at the 34:03 and Allison Mervau buried her shot low into the left corner to tie the game at 1-all.

Quickly into the second half, the Crusaders took a 2-1 lead after Hilary Ells blasted a shot from inside the box for the unassisted tally just 47 seconds after the whistle.

Bilka found her second goal of the season in as many days in the 71st minute to even the score. The freshman beat the Capital defender in a scramble near the endline and sent her close shot past goalie Maggie Donnellan.

Behrend outshot the Crusaders 4-1 in overtime, but was not able to find the back of the net.

Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) had a good day in the net, making six saves for the Lions.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Alfred State, beginning at 7 p.m.
