Women's Soccer Uses Second Half to Handle Alfred State

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team scored three second-half goals to post a 4-2 win over Alfred State in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

The win not only marked the first of the season for the Lions (1-1-1), but it also was the 100th career victory for head coach Patrick O'Driscoll.

Three different players scored for Behrend, including freshman Meghan Burgdolt (Taylorstown, PA/McGuffey) who scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 57th minute. Sam Vasy (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) registered a goal and an assist, while Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) earned her third goal in as many games.

Kali Muhleisen netted both goals for the Pioneers (1-1) and Krista DeCarlo made seven saves in the loss.

After a well-evened first half that resulted in a 1-all tie, Behrend took advantage of an own goal in the 55th minute that sparked another goal just a few minutes later. Vasy played the ball to Burgdolt making a run out of defense. Burgdolt she placed her shot into the upper-left corner for a 3-1 lead.

Muhleisen, who scored the first goal of the game at the 5:59 mark, found the back of the net again off a pass from Hannah Holmok to cut the deficit by one.

Vasy added an insurance goal in the 74th minute. Sam Pace (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) drippled into the box and connected on a short pass to Vasy for the easy shot into the left corner for a two-goal lead.

The Pioneers managed to score two goals on three shots taken, but the Lions fired off 19 shots on the night to hold the advantage.

Behrend returns to action on Friday at the Blue Devil Clarion Inn Classic. The Lions face Fredonia St. at 5 p.m.
