First Half Propels Lions Over Utica

FREDONIA, NY –Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) recorded her first shutout of the season, while the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team scored two goals in the first half to defeat Utica 2-0 on day two of the Blue Devil Clarion Hotel Classic on Saturday.

The Lions (2-2-1) took a total of 19 shots on the afternoon, including 12 in the first half and scoring on two for the win.

Sam Vasy (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) scored her second goal in as many days with the first strike of the day. The senior netted her goal off a pass from newcomer Sam Pace (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) in the 29th minute to take the 1-0 lead.

Behrend struck again five minutes later for a 2-0 advantage thanks to Kiley Ransbury.

Troyan only needed to make one save on two shots taken by Utica.

The Lions are back in action on Tuesday at home against Mt. Union. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
