Late Goals Lift Grove City Past Lions

ERIE, Pa. – The Grove City women's soccer team scored two goals in the final 17 minutes of the game to defeat Penn State Behrend 2-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

The Wolverines (2-4) earn their second win of the season and second straight over the Lions (3-3-2). Leah Wilt and Kristin Thomas netted the goals for Grove City, both off corner kicks in the second half.

In a fairly even match, the Wolverines were able to get on the board first and last while holding Behrend scoreless for the victory. At the 72:55 mark, Wilt smacked the ball from the top of the box into the upper right corner taken by Jordyn White for a 1-0 lead.

Thomas added the insurance goal in the 86th minute. She fought amongst a scramble in front of the net and scored from just yards out off a corner kick to assure Grove City the win.

Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Leah Morra (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) gave the Lions their best opportunity to score. Bilka struck a hard shot to the lower right corner just moments into the game, but Tiffany Yost was there to make the save.

With 12:51 left, Morra was looking for the equalizer and sent a well struck ball just wide of the goal.

Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) tallied three saves on 15 shots, while Yost had three stops on seven attempts.

Behrend returns to action on a week from today at Washington & Jefferson. Game time is 7 p.m.
