WASHINGTON, Pa. – Hayly Skovira scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to lift Washington & Jefferson past Penn State Behrend 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Skovira netted the lone goal with a header off a corner kick by Holly Shipley with 6:50 remaining in the game to help the Presidents (5-4) collect their fifth win of the season.
Skovira's goal was the last play of the game, giving Washington & Jefferson a 10-9 edge in shots. She also subbed back into the contest less than two minutes before scoring. After the substitution, Shipley had a pair of chances on corner kicks and connected on the second with Skovira for the win. Those final two corner kicks helped W&J take a 6-4 advantage in the stats.
Sam Pace (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) fired off five shots for Behrend, while Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) tallied five saves on the night.
Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Franciscan, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
