Houghton Defeats Women's Soccer

HOUGHTON, NY – The Houghton women's soccer team scored three second-half goals, including two from Stephany Ellison to defeat Penn State Behrend 4-0 in non-conference action on Thursday night.

The Highlanders (10-3) got on the board in the first half, but managed to get through the Lions (9-5-1) defense in the second stanza with three goals over a 10-minute span for the win.

Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) had a season-best 10 saves on 23 shots from Houghton.

Atalie Fite tallied a goal and an assist, while Melissa Lincoln contributed two assists. Fite assisted Erin Miller in the opening minutes of the game for a 1-0 lead. She was the first to score in the second half off a pass from Lincoln in the 51st minute.

Lincoln earned her second assist on Ellison's first goal at the 57:26 mark. Three minutes later, Ellison struck again thanks to a pass from Jenny Zacchigna.

The Lions had eight shots to challenge Shawna Sprout, who earned the shutout with one save.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Mt. Aloysius. Senior day begins at 3:30 p.m.
