ERIE, Pa. – Jill Bartman scored the game-winning goal on a pass from Mariah Lockard in the 17th minute to lead Washington & Jefferson past Behrend 1-0 in non-conference action on Saturday.

The Presidents (2-4) tallied the lone goal of the game on their first shot taken in the first half and then fended off the Lions (6-2), who fired off nine shots in the final 20 minutes of the game but could not get the equalizer.

Morgan Kinyon made seven saves to keep Behrend off the board and earn the shut-out victory in the net.

Bartman made her first goal of the season count when she took a shot from the top of the key that narrowly got past Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) off a pass from Lockard at the 16:57 mark.

The Lions, who finished with a 20-9 shot advantage, had a scoring opportunity in the first half when Olivia Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) hit the post with 36 second left before intermission.

Behrend began to feel a sense of urgency as time was expiring and had shots by Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Belack miss the lower left corner of the goal by inches on back-to-back shots in the 78th and 79th minute, respectively.

Troyan ended with four saves on nine shots.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday against Westminster at 7 p.m.
