Women's Soccer Draws Westminster

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team outshot Westminster 17-9, putting more than half of their attempts on target but could not get the game winner to settle for a 1-1 draw against Westminster on Tuesday night.

Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) only needed to make two saves and Jordan Oberlander (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) netted the lone goal in the Lions (6-2-1) first overtime game this season.  Laura Page led the Titans (7-2-1) with eight saves but more importantly Meredith Mishler tallied a team save with two minutes left in the second overtime to prevent the loss.

In the 31st minute, Oberlander snuck the ball past Page after a scramble in front of the goal off a direct kick from Allyson Lonas (Johnstown, PA/Conemaugh Township) to give Behrend the advantage at 1-0.

The two teams battled for 52 scoreless minutes, before Westminster made it a 1-all game. With 7:42 left to play in regulation, Kerri Inzinga scored off a corner kick thanks to a header pass from Kelsey Rogers.

Behrend fired off six shots in overtime, getting the best opportunity from Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) in the 109th minute. She challenged the goalie in the box and slid to get the ball loose, almost over the goal line until Mishler's heroics stopped the Lions chance of a golden goal.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Westminster. Game begins at 1 p.m.
