Freshmen Lead Behrend Past Hilbert

HAMBURG, NY – Freshmen Lia Vinciguerra (Blackhawk, PA/Blackhawk) and Sami Lowry (Pittsburgh, PA/Pine-Richland) each scored their first collegiate goals, leading the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team past Hilbert 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday.

Vinciguerra netted the first goal of the game and the eventual game winner on a penalty kick to help the Lions (8-2-1, 2-0 AMCC) earn their second conference win and remain undefeated against the Hawks (3-6, 0-2 AMCC).

Olivia Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair), the current AMCC Athlete of the Week, took a break from scoring and tallied two assists on the second-half goals.

In the third straight game where Behrend significantly outshoots its opponents, the Lions were able to find the back of the net more than once. After a scoreless battle for nearly the entire first half, Vinciguerra got Behrend on the board in the 40th minute on a penalty kick to make it 1-0.

Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) recorded her season-leading 10th goal at the 73:23 minute off a feed from Belack. The sophomore buried a shot on a breakaway for two-goal edge. Lowry added an insurance goal with four minutes left. Belack had the original shot bounce off the post and Lowry rebounded the ball for the goal and a 3-0 margin.

The Lions got one save from Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) for the shut out.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Franciscan. Game time is 1 p.m.
