Women's Soccer Edged By Baldwin Wallace

ERIE, Pa. – Baldwin Wallace women's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals, including the game winner from Kelly Gough in the 61st minute, to defeat Penn State Behrend 2-1 on the second day of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament on Saturday.

The Lions (0-2) were able to get on the board in the 74th minute but could not find the equalizer. Jordan Oberlander (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) sent a header off the crossbar moments before Behrend got its lone goal from Caroline Mashyna (Erie, PA/McDowell).

Alex Elliott had an unassisted goal for the Yellow Jackets (2-0-1) at the 47:14 mark off a miscue in the box and poked the ball in past Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) for a 1-0 lead.

Baldwin Wallace struck again 13 minutes later on a corner kick. Courtney Schutz send a high long ball into the box and Kelly Gough was able to send a header into the net for a 2-0 advantage.

The Lions dominated the final 15 minutes of the game, getting a goal at 73:35. After Oberlander sent a header off the post, Laura Schaefer (Erie, PA/General McLane) got her first collegiate assist on a pass to Caroline Mashyna (Erie, PA/McDowell) for a long blasted shot from 20-yards out to make it 2-1.

The Yellow Jackets held a 6-1 shot advantage in the first half, but Behrend got the better of the statistics in the second stanza with eight shots and holding Baldwin Wallace to six.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday at Houghton. Game time is 4 p.m.
