Bilka Assists Lions in Win Over La Roche

ERIE, Pa. – Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) had a career-high four assists and added one goal for six points all in the first half to lead Penn State Behrend past La Roche 7-2 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (7-6, 4-1 AMCC) tallied five goals in the first 21 minutes to take a commanding early lead and hold on to post their 10th straight win over the Redhawks (5-5, 2-2 AMCC). Freshman Laura Schaefer (Erie, PA/General McLane) recorded back-to-back goals, while Bilka assisted both those goals and two more all in the first 45 minutes of play.

Vanessa Ceravolo scored and added an assist for La Roche. Her goal came with 1:04 left in the first half and the assist was in the final two minutes of the contest on a pass to Christine Chiodo.

Bilka, who assisted the first three goals, is now just one helper away from tying the single-season record set at 10. The sophomore ripped a shot that was saved by Destiney Davis and Jordan Oberlander (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) put away the deflection for a 1-0 lead at the 6:43 mark.

Schaefer struck twice in three minutes, ripping shots from the top of the box off passes from Bilka for a quick 3-0 advantage in the 14th minute.

Olivia Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) wanted a turn in the offense and buried a deflection off her first shot that was taken to make it 4-0.

After helping so many others, Bilka found the back of the net off a pass down the middle from Oberlander at 21:31 for a five-goal lead. Behrend managed to get two more goals before the end of the half thanks to Tessa Munshower (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) and Amanda Donohue (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley). Both recorded their first goals of the season, including Munshower's first collegiate goal to increase the lead to seven.

In the 44th minute, Ceravolo got La Roche on the board off an indirect kick. The Redhawks would be the team to get the final goal in the second half for the final margin at 7-2.

Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) started in goal and made three saves, before Mackenzie Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) and had two stops in the net.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday at Medaille. Game time is 1:15 p.m.
