Women's Soccer Advances to HLM Championship; Bilka Ties Assist Record

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team scored two goals in the first half and held on to defeat Wooster 2-0 in the opening game of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (1-0) netted their two goals on the first two shots taken in the opening 13 minutes to advance to the championship game tomorrow against Baldwin Wallace, a 3-1 winner of Brockport in the second game.

Rachel Weyand (Butler, PA/Butler) and Olivia Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) each scored with Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) tallied an assist to tie the school record for career assists with 24.

Weyand put Behrend on the scoreboard two minutes, 30 seconds after kickoff when her corner kick bent toward the goal, bouncing off of Carly Eppler's glove and in for a quick 1-0 lead.

Bilka then put herself one assist away from breaking the school record when she fed the ball to Belack down the right side. The junior beat the defenders and buried a low shot into the left corner to make it 2-0 in the 13th minute of the first half.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second half, leaving it a two-goal game.

Freshman Mackenzie Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) made both of her saves in the first half, while Eppler had six stops on 15 shots by the Lions.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow in the championship game at 2:30 p.m.
