Lions Fall in HLM Championship in OT

ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace women's soccer team netted the golden goal just 3:32 into the first overtime to defeat Penn State Behrend 1-0 in the championship game of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Rachel Bender, the tournament MVP, helped the Yellow Jackets (2-1) win the tournament title with the lone goal of the game and her third of the weekend.

Mackenzie Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) made six stops for the Lions (1-1), who outshot BW 19-9 including 11-3 in the first half.

Bender's heroics came in the 94th minute when she used her speed to get to the endline and cut back, giving her a point-blank shot from just a few feet away for the win.

Nicole Evans (South Park, PA/South Park) had her shot hit the post in the second half, while Emma Bruno posted seven saves on attempts by Jordan Oberlander (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf). Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Olivia Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) also had great attempts in regulation that just missed the back of the net.

Behrend returns to action on Friday against Elmhurst in Chicago. Game time is 8 p.m.
