Grove City Slips Past Women's Soccer

GROVE CITY, Pa. –Lacy Harkrader scored the game-winning goal in the 60th minute to lead Grove City past Penn State Behrend 3-2 in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

Harkrader scored the only goal of the second half to help the Wolverines (5-2) break a 2-all tie and edge the Lions (4-4) for the second year in a row.

Catherine Eichenlaub (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) and Olivia Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) each scored for Behrend. Eichenlaub struck on her first shot of the game, firing the ball from 35 yards out at the 8:04 mark for a 1-0 lead.

Grove City answered with back-to-back goals over an eight-minute span. Krista Heckman tied the game in the 17th minute with an unassisted tally. The Wolverines took the lead on a goal from Elena Guerra thanks to a pass from Ruby Mattson.

With five minutes left until halftime, Belack got the equalizer on a pass from Alex Bilka (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley). Bilka slid a pass to the outside to Belack, who took a touch to be a defender and placed the ball near post from just outside the box.

With four goals combined in the second half, both teams hunkered down on defense but Grove City managed to get the game winner with 30:17 left to play. Behrend added six more shots to its 12 total, trying to erase the deficit but could not find the back of the net for a third time.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg. Game time is 1 p.m.
