Oberlander Lifts Women's Soccer Past Franciscan

STUEBENVILLE, Ohio – Jordan Oberlander (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) scored the game-winning goal in the 76th minute to help the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team defeat Franciscan 2-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Lions (11-4, 6-0 AMCC) remains undefeated in conference play and in first place thanks to an early goal by Megan Schwartz (Shaler, PA/Shaler) and the game winner by Oberlander in the second half for their seventh straight victory.

Mackenzie Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves on nine shots.

Schwartz came off the bench to give Behrend a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. The sophomore dribbled through three Baron (4-10-1, 1-6-1 AMCC) defenders and drew the goalie out for an empty net at the 32:45 mark of the first half.

Franciscan got the equalizer in the second half off a goal from Megan Luiso. She headed a long pass sent into the box by Megan Riederer in the 56 minute to knot the game at 1-all.

Nearly 20 minutes later, Oberlander collected the rebound off her own shot to send the ball high and over the goalie from the center of the box to break the tie.

The Lions held a 19-9 shot advantage, led by Olivia Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) with five.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Pitt-Bradford. Game time is 5 p.m.
