Seven Named to AMCC All-Conference Team

Seven Penn State Behrend women's soccer players were named to the 2019 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) All-Conference team, announced on Tuesday.

Sophomore Brenna McGuire (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) and junior Taylor Mealie (Baden, PA/Ambridge) were selected to the first team while senior Catherine Eichenlaub (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) and sophomore Ava Michael (State College, PA/State College) were named to the second team. Freshman Bella Sestito (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson), senior Emily Scaletta (Mars, PA/Mars), and sophomore Madi Jones (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) earned third-team honors.

McGuire was recognized on the first team for the second time in her career, last season being named the 2018 AMCC Player and Newcomer of the Year. McGuire is the team leader in goals (17), points (41) and points per game (2.16). She finished the regular season tied for first in goals (14), assists (5), points (33), points per game (3.30) and goals per game (1.40) in AMCC contests. McGuire has four game-winning goals along with four multiple-goal games this season. She has started in every game this fall. McGuire had a career high 11 points against Hilbert on October 29 scoring five goals and one assist.

Mealie earns her second consecutive first-team all-conference nod while Michael, a first team All-AMCC choice in 2018 was named second team. Both players have anchored the Behrend defense that has registered five shutouts this season. They helped the Lions hold opponents to just five goals in conference action. Behrend has outscored AMCC opponents 33-5 this fall. Offensively, Mealie has tallied seven assists for seven points this season and finished the regular season ranked tied for third in the conference in assists during AMCC contests. Michael has two goals and one assist this season for a total of five points.

Eichenlaub tallies her third all-conference honors being named a second team All-AMCC choice in 2018 and third team selection in 2016. She has played an integral role in the Behrend midfield position. Eichenlaub helped control the game in the middle, starting every game this season. She has been instrumental in holding opponents to just five goals in conference action while registering five shutouts.

Sestito sees her first all-conference honors on the third team. She has scored seven goals and dished out one assist this season in the forward position for a total of 15 points. Sestito has started in 11 games for the Lions, with nine being AMCC matchups. She has two game-winning goals this year along with two multiple-goal games.

Scaletta earns her first all-conference selection on the third team. She has been instrumental this season in the midfield position. Scaletta has started in nine games and played in 15 total for the Lions. She has one goal and two assists this season for a total of four points.

Jones was recognized third-team all-conference for the second time in her career. She played and started in 15 games for the Lions this season. Jones registered 11 complete games and five shutouts. She finished the season with 37 saves and a 1.18 goals-against average for third best in the conference.
